Union Missionary Baptist Church was organized on January 3, 1945, by its Founding pastor Reverend Samuel Brown. Services were held in a Mexican Mission until moving into the home of a devoted member. An empty lot was donated on Crooks Avenue, where members erected a tent to hold services. The church was strengthened through prayer and donations from the assistance of churches and Christian friends and was dedicated on June 6, 1945. On May 7, 1946, Reverend Samuel Brown and his congregation marched into the partially completed church and continued holding services with the completion on August 20, 1947.
Reverend Samuel Brown served as the pastor until his farewell sermon in 1952. United in faith and with divine guidance, we embarked on a journey to construct a new building. This collective effort and unwavering faith led us to our present sanctuary, a testament to the strength of our community.
Between the years of 1952 and 2006, Union Missionary Baptist Church was blessed with the leadership of several astute Ministers, Reverend H. V. Brown, Reverend J. D. Matthews, Reverend Mack Johnson, Reverend W. Lee Robinson, Reverend Benjamin E. Love, Reverend Carl Hatcher, Reverend Wayman Brown Sr, and Reverend Walter C. McClendon. Each of these pastors united in their faith and mission, made significant contributions to the ministry at Union Missionary Baptist Church.
In 2008, the Lord blessed us with our current pastor, Dr. Seth Williams. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, his motto is “We are the Church where Everybody is Somebody and Jesus Christ is All.” Under his leadership, we have continued to grow, building God's kingdom. We are a church with a clear vision where no one is looked down on; we all are striving for the same goal: to see Jesus Christ one day.
The support and significant contributions of these Pastors will always hold a cherished place in the hearts of Union Missionary Baptist Church members, evoking a sense of nostalgia and deep appreciation for their service.
Our commitment to serving the community is unwavering. We are a church with a "New Beginning," actively reaching out and welcoming all people and providing opportunities for service and improvement in our church and community.
Union Missionary Baptist Church continues to walk by faith as a guiding light for the community. A church in the community for the community.
The mission of the Union Missionary Baptist Church is to be a true-planted and rightly established congregation of faithful people, a communion of baptized believers who share a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit and growth toward Christian maturity - we study, pray, fellowship, worship, witness and serve.
Our endeavor is to carry out the mandates of Jesus Christ.
